Setting

Its memory-fueled practices are intertwined with the goddesses’ Truth magic. Cordette comes seeking admission to the Order, while Marcel’s exceptional status gives him unusual leverage within it.
Cast
Cordette Lyra Morivaux. Cordette seeks admission to the Notary Order, hoping to stop the Vergessen that has torn through her family. Marcel’s writing once helped her recover the will to live fully; her arrival at the academy brings her into his life.
Marcellin Valencourt. Known as Marcel, he is a Notary whose exceptional access to Life’s and Death’s magical fuels gives him unusual authority at Chênemont. He feels responsible for deaths he has the power to prevent, even when that responsibility was never his to assume.
