What this site remembers, and what you can control.

Who runs this site
I’m Arthur S. Holloway, an author based in Utah, United States. This notice covers arthursholloway.com and its Reader and administration services. You can contact me at contact@arthursholloway.com.
Browsing and appearance
You can read public pages without creating an account. Your browser’s light or dark preference is used by default. If you choose an appearance in the site menu, that choice is saved in this browser’s local storage and shared with other tabs of this site in the same browser profile. Choosing System follows your device again. Clearing the site’s browser data removes the saved choice.
Reader sign-in uses secure cookies to maintain your session. Appearance settings and sign-in are separate from newsletter preferences.
Email updates and Reader accounts
When you request email updates, I use your email address and subscription records to manage the newsletter and send messages you requested. Delivery services also process delivery, bounce and complaint information.
If you request a Reader account, your email address is used for verification and sign-in. Account records hold your access status and any permissions granted to you. Signing in does not subscribe you to the newsletter. Unsubscribing does not remove your Reader access.
Use the unsubscribe link in a newsletter to stop future updates. If a link does not work, contact me. You do not need to sign in to unsubscribe.
Providers and security
Amazon Web Services provides hosting, account infrastructure, data storage and email delivery. These services process information needed to deliver the site and its messages. Technical records are used to operate the services, investigate failures and protect access. Please do not send passwords or verification codes when asking for help.
Detailed security logs can include your IP address, the page requested, browser information, request time and result. These traffic logs have a seven-day retention setting; application and API logs have settings of seven or thirty days. The detailed traffic log excludes cookies, query strings, referrers and request bodies. This operational logging is separate from the optional arrival counts below.
Site statistics
The site counts arrivals by referring website, campaign tag and landing-page group. This collector uses no cookies, visitor identifiers or individual browsing histories. It does not connect arrivals to Reader accounts or newsletter subscriptions.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals stop this collection. Daily aggregate records are scheduled for deletion after 90 days; storage cleanup can take additional time.
Patreon
Support payments and memberships take place on Patreon, which operates under its own privacy policy. Patreon may make member information available to me to provide membership benefits. Supporting me there does not automatically subscribe you to this site’s newsletter.
Payment details entered on Patreon are handled there, rather than through a checkout on this site.
The Reader Discord community
Readers can choose to join the official Discord community for discussion. This site checks your Reader access before providing an invitation. Joining is optional and does not subscribe you to the newsletter.
Discord hosts the community and processes information under its own privacy policy. Your Discord profile and the messages you share are visible according to the channels and permissions involved, including to me and community moderators where they have access. I manage the community using the controls Discord provides; I do not operate Discord itself.
Other social networks and websites
Other social links take you to external platforms that I do not operate or control. Their own privacy policies and account settings govern information you provide to those services.
Retention and requests
Account and subscription information is kept while needed to provide the relevant service. Some information may also be kept to maintain security, record consent or an unsubscribe, resolve a dispute, or meet a legal obligation. Backups may retain older records until they expire.
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information. Describe the request and the email address you used. I may need to verify ownership before disclosing or changing account information. I will explain any information that needs to be retained. For information held only by Patreon, use Patreon’s privacy request process.
You can also contact me about information or moderation in the Reader Discord community. Requests about your Discord account or information held by Discord itself should go through Discord’s privacy controls and request process.
Changes to this notice
This page’s update date identifies the current notice. Material changes affecting how your information is used will be explained here and, where appropriate, through the service concerned.
